Traveling to Italy is magical at any time of the year, and traveling during the month of June is no exception. That being said, if you are seeking to enjoy the wonderful cuisine of Italy, you don’t need to travel across the Atlantic to enjoy an authentic Italian restaurant in Orlando. Christini’s Ristorante Italiano promises to deliver the best in the flavors of Italy, and you never have to leave Orlando.
If you are headed to Italy in June, you should be prepared to pay premium prices for hotel accommodations and other travel-related costs. June is considered the kick-off month of the tourist season in Italy. The weather promises to be seasonally warm and very enjoyable at the start of the month and grows increasingly warmer as the month goes on. If you are planning to visit southern Italy, it’s best to book way in advance to avoid the rush of folks traveling to visit the refreshing waters of the coastal cities.
Local patron saints are celebrated throughout the year in Italy, and the month of June is no exception. In Pisa, the Luminara di San Ranieri is celebrated on June 16th, which is the day before the feast of Saint Ranieri. The bridges and buildings that line the River Arno are illuminated with candles, and over 70,000 glass candle holders making quite an amazing sight. The feast is followed by the Historical Regatta where a competition between the four districts of town has rowers fighting the current on the Arno River.
Smaller festivals (and some not so small) hosted throughout the picturesque villages are the places to be if you want to truly soak up the local flavor of Italy. La Festa della Repubblica and Tortellini sotto i Portici in Modena are two holidays celebrated on June 2nd each year. La Festa della Repubblica observes the birth of the Italian Republic and is celebrated throughout the country with parades and various activities. As a national holiday, almost all public places and stores are closed country-wide. Tortellini sotto i Portici in Modena is a celebration of no other than tortellini those fabulous little gems of stuffed pasta.
The Festa di San Giovanni, Firenze occurs on June 24th annually in Florence. It features a medieval tournament, a regatta, and, of course, food and drink abound.
For those who favor the arts, the Festival Internazionale della Ceramica in Montelupo features an international Ceramics Festival towards the end of the month. Local ceramic makers demonstrate the traditional ceramic art form that has been perfected in Italy for centuries. The Festival dei Due Mondi began in 1958 and celebrates the performing arts including art, film, operas, ballet, and musical concerts. It enjoys worldwide acclaim as the place to be in early June.
